Green Mountain Getaway

Departs from New York, NY (NYP) and arrives in Burlington, VT (BTN)

Enjoy approximately 8 hours onboard

Not every extraordinary journey needs an overnight stay. Leave Manhattan with a welcome reception onboard and spend the day in a private railcar, with the river and the mountains passing slowly by.

Lunch is served as you leave the city behind. Dinner is a formal affair, prepared by your executive chef and set with the Vermont hills just beyond the glass. In the right season, the foliage is already turning. By the time you arrive on the shores of Lake Champlain, the day has felt like a week away.

One day, one lake, and a railcar that is entirely your own.

Itinerary

  1. New York, NY
Day 1 | Board in New York

Settle into your private railcar under the heart of Manhattan and enjoy a welcome reception as the train slips under the city and rolls north towards upstate New York.

    Lunch

  2. Hudson Highlands, NY
Day 1 | Bear Mountain Bridge

The train hugs the river's east bank as the Hudson narrows into a fjord-like gorge, with steep, forested mountains rising on both sides. In late September the foliage starts turning.

  3. Pollepel Island, NY
    Day 1 | Bannerman's Castle

Ruins of an early 1900s military-surplus warehouse that looks like a Scottish castle, sitting on a small island in the middle of the river. It is one of the most photographed sights on the Hudson Line.

  4. Poughkeepsie, NY
Day 1 | Walkway Over the Hudson

A former railroad bridge, now the world's longest elevated pedestrian bridge, spans the river about 212 feet above the water. It appears ahead as the train approaches Poughkeepsie.

  5. Whitehall, NY
    Day 1 | Champlain Canal

Travel through the heart of Whitehall, NY as you sit down for a formal dinner, prepared by your executive chef. The historic canal leading to the southern tip of Lake Champlain sits just outside your window.

    Dinner

  6. Castleton, VT
    Day 1 | Vermont's Slate Valley

Cross into Vermont through the slate quarrying region, with old quarry cuts and slate-roofed buildings, and the Taconic foothills in the background.

  7. Middlebury, VT
Day 1 | The Green Mountains

Cruise through Vermont's Green Mountains, famous for skiing and outdoor recreation.

  8. Burlington, VT
Day 1 | Arrival in Burlington

Pull into Burlington as your journey into New England concludes. Disembark and spend your time in Burlington exploring the city or on Lake Champlain.
