Canadian Crossing

Departs from Montreal, PQ (MTR) and arrives in New York, NY (NYP)

Enjoy approximately 12 hours onboard

Leave Montréal with the morning coffee still warm and arrive in Manhattan as the city is just getting started on its evening. Your private railcar crosses the broad St. Lawrence and slips south through the farmland of Québec, and by late morning you are back in the United States without ever leaving your seat. From there the train follows the western shore of Lake Champlain, clinging to forested cliffs before settling in at the water's edge, the Green Mountains of Vermont rising across the lake. It passes the old canal town of Whitehall and the horse country of Saratoga, then meets the Hudson River and stays with it for more than a hundred miles. As dinner is served, the sun drops behind the Catskills across the water, and the river carries you through the Highlands and into the heart of New York.

It's one day and two countries, and the whole car is yours.

  1. Montréal, QC
Day 1 | Board in Montréal

Settle into your private railcar at Gare Centrale, tucked beneath Place Ville Marie in the heart of downtown. A breakfast made to order is served as the train eases out of the city and heads south.

  2. Victoria Bridge, QC
Day 1 | Crossing the St. Lawrence

Take in a last look at the Montréal skyline and Mount Royal as the train crosses the St. Lawrence River on the Victoria Bridge, once hailed as the longest bridge in the world.

  3. Lacolle, QC
Day 1 | Farewell to Québec

The farmland and orchards of the Richelieu Valley give way to the international border. The train crosses quietly back into the United States just south of this small village.

  4. Rouses Point, NY
Day 1 | Welcome to the United States

The train pauses at the first station in the United States, where U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers come aboard to inspect passports. Remain in the comfort of your railcar and have your passports ready.

  5. Port Henry, NY
    Day 1 | Lake Champlain

The train winds along steep, forested slopes high above the lake, some of the best scenery of the trip, before descending to the water's edge at Port Henry. Enjoy lunch prepared by your executive chef with clear views across the lake to the Green Mountains.

  6. Whitehall, NY
    Day 1 | Champlain Canal

As the lake narrows to a ribbon, the train rolls through Whitehall, the birthplace of the U.S. Navy and gateway to the Champlain Canal. A fine moment for an afternoon glass of something cold.

  7. Saratoga Springs, NY
    Day 1 | Horse Country

Pass through the rolling countryside of Saratoga, home to one of the oldest thoroughbred racetracks in the nation and the mineral springs that made it a Gilded Age retreat.

  8. Hudson, NY
Day 1 | Along the Hudson

The train meets the Hudson River and runs beside it the rest of the way south. Enjoy a formal dinner as the sun sets behind the Catskills across the water. Depending on the time of year, catch a view Bannerman's Castle, one of the most photographed sights on the Hudson Line.

    Dinner

  9. New York, NY
Day 1 | Arrival in Manhattan

The trip ends in Midtown Manhattan, with the theaters, restaurants, and hotels just steps away.
