Blue Ridge & Bayou

Departs from New York, NY (NYP) and arrives in New Orleans, LA (NOL)

Enjoy approximately 30 hours onboard

Leave Manhattan in the afternoon and arrive in New Orleans the following evening, with a continent's worth of change in between. Your private railcar carries you south through the great cities of the Northeast Corridor. You cross the Virginia Piedmont at sunset, and you are asleep in your bedroom while the Carolinas pass in the dark. Morning brings the red clay hills of Georgia and the steel-and-sky skyline of Atlanta. The pine woods of Mississippi follow, and finally the long crossing of Lake Pontchartrain, with the water on both sides and the city ahead.

The pace is unhurried, the table is set with the flavors of each region you pass through, and every mile of it is yours alone.

Itinerary

  1. New York, NY
Day 1 | Board in New York

Settle into your private railcar under the heart of Manhattan and enjoy a welcome reception as the train slips out and rolls south through The Meadowlands of New Jersey.

  2. Philadelphia, PA
Day 1 | Birthplace of America

Pass through Philadelphia at 30th Street Station, a 1933 limestone temple of a depot. Glimpse the skyline of the city where the Declaration of Independence was signed before the train follows the Delaware down to the Chesapeake.

  3. Washington, D.C.
Day 1 | Capital at Sunset

An early-evening pass through Washington, with views of the Capitol dome and a glimpse of the Washington Monument as the train crosses the Potomac into Virginia.

    Dinner

  4. Charlottesville, VA
    Day 1 | Jefferson Country

Rolling horse farms and vineyards fade into dusk as the train climbs toward the Blue Ridge. This is the country of Monticello and the University of Virginia, and the last of the evening light gilds the foothills.

  5. Charlotte, NC
Day 1 | Through the Night

Somewhere past Lynchburg and the Carolina Piedmont, the world goes dark and the train rocks you to sleep. By the time Charlotte's skyline passes in the small hours, you are deep in your bedroom.

    Sleep Onboard

  6. Greenville, SC
Day 2 | Blue Ridge Daybreak

Wake in the foothills of the Southern Appalachians. Mist lies in the hollows, the red clay hills are just catching the light, and coffee is waiting in your railcar.

    Breakfast

  7. Atlanta, GA
Day 2 | Capital of the New South

A late-morning stop in Atlanta, where the skyline rises above Georgia pines and the old railway city still bears the mark of its origins as a rail crossroads.

  8. Birmingham, AL
Day 2 | The Magic City

Once the steel capital of the South, Birmingham sits beneath Red Mountain, its iron-ore ridge crowned by the statue of Vulcan. Lunch is served as the train crosses the last ridgelines of the Appalachians.

    Lunch

  9. Tuscaloosa, AL
Day 2 | The Black Warrior River

The train follows the Black Warrior River through Alabama's pine and hardwood forests, passing small towns and long, quiet stretches of farmland.

  10. Meridian, MS
Day 2 | The Piney Woods

A brief pause in Meridian, birthplace of country music pioneer Jimmie Rodgers. South of here the landscape flattens into longleaf pine and slow, tea-colored rivers.

  11. Lake Pontchartrain
Day 2 | The Long Crossing

Near Slidell the land dissolves into cypress swamp, and the train crosses the eastern edge of Lake Pontchartrain on a long causeway. The water stretches to the horizon on both sides, with the last gold of the evening on it.

  12. New Orleans, LA
Day 2 | Arrive in New Orleans

Dinner is served as the skyline appears out of the marsh. Arrive at Union Passenger Terminal, and your car is waiting to take you to the French Quarter, the Garden District, or wherever the evening should begin.
